Sports Nutrition

February 01, 2012 By: admin Category: Nutrition

Sports nutrition supplements have been used in various guises for many decades by athletes and bodybuilders. Even as early as the 1940s research indicated that supplemental protein could increase muscle mass if used by strength training athletes. However the last decade has seen the evolution of a multi million pound, sports nutrition industry. As the sports nutrition industry has grown, the products have become more advanced and the scientific scrutiny and testing has increased.

It is fair to say that as the industry becomes more main stream, the collective responsibility to ensure objective and concise information is readily available, increases. In their very broadest sense, sports nutrition products are designed to improve performance and help aid recovery from intense exercise. Many sports nutrition supplements are in fact food supplements which mean that they provide nutrients that are found in everyday foods but in a concentrated form. For example, whey protein is exceptionally high in protein (typically 80%) and can provide the same levels of protein found in a chicken breast but without the inconvenience of having to prepare and cook it.

As the name suggests, sports nutrition supplements should be complementary to a balanced diet. The majority of a person’s nutrients should always come from a diet being rich in unprocessed foods, using supplements to fill in any nutritional gaps. Sports Nutrition Limitations As the sports nutrition industry has grown in size, marketing by companies has increased. Unfortunately, some of the communication used builds unrealistic expectations. As someone who may be recommending sports nutrition products to users, it is key to understand what can be realistically achieved by using sports nutrition products. Sports nutrition products are not miracle potions, they will not yield huge gains in performance, however they will aid the user when combined with other important factors.

In its simplest form, the key pillars to achieving physical goals fall into the following areas: Diet – Arguably the most important factor. With a diet that isn’t tailored towards the correct goals, the goals may well not be realized. In its broadest sense, diet will also include the use of sports nutrition supplements, although it is important that they are not the main source of nutrition. Training – Without the correct exercise plan, the body will not be subjected to the right stressors from which it can adapt. For example someone wanting to put on mass would not train the same way as someone preparing for a marathon.

Rest – As the adage suggests, ‘you don’t grow in the gym’. Essentially recovery takes place in the days after training. If there is insufficient rest, training gains will be hindered and the body may go into a state of over training. The most important aspect when recommending sports nutrition products is making sure that they are suitable for the user. Understanding the user’s goals and any potential intolerances is key to finding the right product for any given person. Additionally having an understanding of their lifestyle (active/desk job) and diet will also play a factor in the type of products that are suited.

Trainer Tips for Men: How to Lose Weight and Be Fit

February 01, 2012 By: admin Category: Health Tips

Men often need to slim down from time to time and the main way that men go about doing it is to hit the gym. Often, men experience soreness and discomfort from working out, while never seeing the results they hoped for. This is usually because men work out following myths and misinformation about what it takes to get into shape and lose weight.

The best way to see results is to get information straight from the people who know how to exercise the best: here are four tips for exercise and nutrition that trainers want every man to know about losing weight and staying in shape. First and foremost, stretch! The importance of stretching to maintaining a healthy lifestyle that is conducive to losing weight cannot be emphasized enough. Stretching has a multitude of benefits. Stretching increases joint flexibility, reduces muscle tension, and can aid in healing sore and damaged muscle tissue. The most important benefit of stretching is that it increases circulation (blood flow) which helps increase energy output on the muscles. Stretching before exercising will help maximize the exercise by warming up muscle groups and moving the blood.

Post-exercise stretching aids in muscle recovery by increasing blood circulation, and helps flush the body of lactic acid. Men need to do cardiovascular activities (cardio) as well as lift weights. Most men get into the gym and are pumped to move some iron; which itself is an important part of losing weight and staying fit. But weight training is only half the battle; in order to lose weight you need to do cardio along with strength training. Doing at least thirty minutes of cardio per gym session will strengthen your heart (for better blood flow) and lungs (for better oxygen distribution). Both of these will help maximize your strength training; they will help you build leaner muscle faster. Cardio is also a great way to burn hundreds of calories. Another thing that men often overlook is getting the right nutrition to maximize their time in the gym.

You can easily identify when people don’t have the right nutrition because their workouts are up and down. Someone might have great energy one day, but he’ll have poor energy the next. The easiest way to get all the nutrients your body needs is to take a multivitamin. A multivitamin that is customized for men will provide everything that is necessary, without relying on having everything coming from your diet. This gives you more flexibility in eating the foods you want, while still providing the right nutrients that help you work out in the gym. The last myth about working out is that men who focus on strength training can eat as much protein as they want. This myth is based on the true fact that protein is necessary to develop lean muscle. As muscles work out, the muscle fiber becomes slightly torn and damaged.

The body needs protein available to fix the torn muscle fibers and prevent the dull aching soreness post-workout. The problem is that men need to be smart about their protein consumption. Just going out and eating a steak dinner or a couple cheeseburgers is bound to hurt your fitness rather than improve it. You want to eat low-calorie and healthy; and typically meat is packed with fat.

Trainers know that the best way to provide your body with the protein it needs is through a whey protein supplement. Whey protein is easy to digest and usually comes in a powdered form. You then mix the powder with water, and you are hydrating at the same time that you are giving your muscles the tools they need to repair. Learn what the trainers want you to know – and begin to workout smarter. You will lose weight and gain strength in no time.

Dog Health Care

January 31, 2012 By: admin Category: Health

Dog health care is such a vast domain that you would need really specific problems to focus on in order to cover the issues you’re interested in. Among the main dog health care problems we may say that the most frequent ones are fleas, worms and poisons. If these are not professionally taken care of, other very serious troubles may be expected.

Worms and external parasites waste the dog’s body of nutrients and energy; plus dog health care providers insist that neglected dogs are full of toxins because of the parasite overgrowth. Here are some dog health care tips to be used when dealing with worms, fleas or various poisons the dog comes into contact. Puppies need de-worming as early as two or three weeks with the procedure repeated at four or six weeks of age. Dog health care specialists claim that worm immunity in puppies doesn’t appear sooner than six months of age, and the worm larvae pass from mother to puppies.

In order to meet the dog health care requirements you need to remove all stools from your garden, keep the lawn cut short and make sure you feed your dog on thoroughly cooked meat. Fleas are the next dog health care problem under discussion here, and to a certain extent they are responsible for the possible tapeworms they may carry. Fleas and lice are easy to deal with; thanks to the many shampoos, collars or special drops, this dog health care issue has become piece of cake. Do not use human shampoo to wash your dog as it will completely degrease the fur and afterwards the dog’s skin would have to secret even more oil to compensate for the deficit.
